Two panda cubs were born at the Beauval Zoo.

At the ZooParc de Beauval, the cries have finally rang out: the panda cubs have been born! Mom Juan Juan gave birth to two little females at 1:03 am and 1:10 am… eight hours after the start of labor. The wait was long in Saint-Aignan in the Loir-et-Cher, but the little family is doing well, babies weigh 149 and 129 grams. “They are very lively, pink and plump,” says the zoo team. Juan Juan washed them and hugged them in front of the excited crew.

The birth is an event that took place four years almost the day after the birth of the first panda cub at the zoo on August 4, 2017 named Yuan Meng. In late March, two giant pandas, Huang Huan and Yuan Zi, rented from China, attempted to mate under the scrutiny of veterinarians and trainers. To put the odds in their favor, veterinarians practiced artificial insemination as a precaution, the female panda is only capable of breeding 24 to 48 hours a year. It was through this artificial insemination technique that Huan Huan had already given birth to Yuan Meng.

It will take months to see the first release of panda cubs

Four years after the birth of the first panda cub in Beauval, we now know what’s in store for these two cubs. They will be carefully looked after by zoo veterinarians. They will be separated from their mother after more than two years and separated from her on the same day. We will know the name at birth in just a few months, and we will have to wait even longer before we see them in the open. In 2017 Yuan Meng was born on August 4 and did not have a first date until January 18, 2018. It is also remembered that in 2017, Huan Huan gave birth to twins, but only one survived.

Beauval’s pandas are on loan from China. The agreement provides for the return of infants to their country of origin. “Yuan Meng is expected to remain in France until 2021, when he is expected to join China to participate in a captive breeding program. However, this transfer could be jeopardized if the Covid-19 health crisis is not resolved.indicates the zoo Beauval.

ZooParc de Beauval hopes to take advantage of this birth to resume operations after more than a year of Covid-19 related health restrictions. In 2017, after the birth of her first child, little panda’s every move was broadcast on social media. He became a social media star with nearly 10 million views, with tens of thousands of people following his every appearance on Facebook: so much so that the zoo decided to hire to handle the extra crowds Beauval might have known thanks to the Panda family.

Juan Juan took babies by mouth to wash them after birth on the night of Sunday to Monday 2 August.
