A 1997 Fiat Panda 4X4 en route to the North Cape for neurofibromatosis research.

Thomas and Tanguy have been inseparable and complementary cousins since early childhood. By the will of fate, they also became sons-in-law! In memory of their sister-in-law, Ines, who died at the age of 24 as a result of neurofibromatosis, the two cousins have long wanted to mobilize to support scientific research into the disease, which ultimately did not come to fruition. such an orphan.

By chance, during their exploration, they discover the Excellent Adventure Club, a German association organizing a rally raid to the North Cape, bypassing the Baltic Sea. The condition placed on each team to participate in this adventure is to tie their participation to fundraising for a charity of their choice. Project YouMe1Panda was launched…

YuMe1Panda, these are 16 days of snow raids in the heart of the southern winter. 10 countries to cross only on small roads and without GPS: 7500 km of driving in full autonomy behind the wheel of their 1997 Fiat Panda 4X4.

Thomas and Tanguy have been preparing for their journey for almost 2 years now, the car has been completely redesigned for the occasion, staying true to the original model: simple, reliable and simple.

They also decided to take responsibility for the environmental impact of their adventure by compensating for all the kilometers driven on the Panda through the Vinçotte certified CO2logic program.

Ines, daughter-in-law of Thomas and Tanguy, died at the age of 24 from neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF), a hereditary disease that affects about 1 in 2,500 newborns.

The Ines Costa Foundation was initiated by André (†) and Jacqueline Costa, Ines’ parents, as well as the NF Kontakt patient association, working for over 25 years with Prof. Eric Legius, a researcher at KULeuven.

Professor Legius’ team focuses its research exclusively on the fight against neurofibromatosis. This world-renowned group of researchers has already distinguished itself several times by publishing revolutionary advances in understanding the development of neurofibromas. With the support of the Inés Costa Foundation, scientists can deepen their field of research with a particular focus on achieving tangible results in terms of patient care.

Target YouMe1Panda must raise a minimum of 20,000 euros for the fund. Thomas and Tanguy bear all the costs of the raid entirely at their own expense (car, fuel, expenses, insurance, passports and visas, accommodation, food, etc.), so 100% of donations and winnings will go directly to the Foundation.

To date, the pot YouMe1Panda is already close to 17,000 euros thanks to sponsors, donations and promotions organized in recent months by Thomas and Tanguy: olive oil sales, film previews, playlist compositions they will listen to while traveling, donations in exchange for products offered by their sponsors, etc. Fiat will also donate an amount to participate in this charity.

Tanguy : “ This is above all an incredible human project! ToiMoi1Panda has allowed us to use the complementarity and strength of our duo for a cause that is very dear to us as a family. Even if our fans in the first hour still think we’re crazy to try this Fiat Panda adventure, we’ve managed to gather and raise the attention of the entire community about the scientific research against neurofibromatosis, a little-known syndrome that unfortunately affects many people. all over the world. Our friends, families and networks responded and quickly mobilized to sponsor us, buy our olive oil, participate in film screenings, pass on information to potential donors, hear from us about the progress of preparations, etc. . We devote a lot of time to this, but the result is there and we are very proud of it. »

Thomas : “This is a crazy adventure. The right storytelling, the successful rallying of the largest possible group around the project to support neurofibromatosis research, had to be done in style, with great class and charm. Therefore, an extreme trip on the first generation Fiat Panda 4×4 seemed inevitable to us. The restoration and overhaul of the Fiat Panda took time, but its reliability, mechanical simplicity and strength made the job much easier. Finally, traversing gorgeous scenery while driving a car with iconic styling like the Panda can only draw the attention of the crowd.
Thanks to social networks, we could also count on the large Pandista community around the world, whether from Italy or France, Portugal, Germany or even Japan, they helped us find items, gave us advice and a lot of encouragement. »
